Patient Centered Tools:
Adaptive Translational Science in Action

20-point White Border.gif

University of California, San Francisco's Vaccination Is Prevention Study required a novel approach to their patient journal: One that transformed an after-visit packet composed of easily losable pieces by our on-the-move patient population into a form factor that fit in a single pock. Thus was born the VIP Study Memory Crutch! With our sponsors blessing this total document transformation received review and approval status in record time by UCSFs fairly conservative CHR (centralized IRB)! Successful deployment led to Johns Hopkins University site requesting a version localized to Baltimore, Maryland. Patient first tools built from the ground up ensures excellent data retention. One way I bring form to unconventional requirements.

BEFORE TOTAL TRANSFORMATION: Bound for loss & poor data capture.

AFTER: Patient Journal as Zine; Mutually beneficial for patient & project!

A New Kind Of Patient Journal

When adaptive translational sciences means total document transformation: From loose after-visit patient journal handouts to actually useful after-visit zine they'll remember. No patient journal to track symptoms after investigative new drug administration before it looked this cool.

Follow-up Appt Reminders & PublicTransit Details

Inclusion of past & future dates, follow-up appointment reminders, and transit route options to get from anywhere in the SF Bay Area to our office are cornerstone improvements. Patients without regular access to calendars successfully kept track of time between visits.

Transit localization for Baltimore's Memory Crutch was successfully completed through my diligent efforts due to the lack of familiarity and utilization of public transit by the Baltimore team.
