“Through our bleeding! We are one!” but make it “I am one of those/ Melodramatic fools/ Neurotic to the bone/ No doubt about it”
Processed an EBay return for a rare never played vinyl EP that's been in my collection since 2002. Put out by AFI, a once local to the San Francisco Bay Area now internationally renowned band. Gotta say- this isn’t a typical return.
Folks I sold it to played it once. Returned it because it wasn’t AFI. Understandable. I’d be disappointed too. In 2002, AFI was at the peak of their popularity in the SF Bay Area. And if you’re expecting to hear AFI, and it’s not AFI they’re right to want that money back too. But- local to the bay and growing up in this scene made me curious. Who the heck’s on it?
Based on the label: What it should have been and was sold as:
Fourth extended play release by AFI, A Fire Inside EP, originally hit stores September 29, 1998.
Listed was a complete vinyl put out by Adeline Records in Oakland, CA. 2nd Pressing. Never played. Insert included. This particular vinyl is from the 2002 2nd pressing ) confirmed by dust jacket of fire with the College Ave address). They either have a Yellow - Small Center Hole or a
Black - Small Center Hole. This one is black making it an earlier pressing in the run. All info pressing info from discogs.com: https://www.discogs.com/master/32633-AFI-A-Fire-Inside-EP

PINHEAD GUNPOWDER’S SPLIT EP WITH DILINGER FOUR originally released May 16th, 2000: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dillinger_Four_/_Pinhead_Gunpowder
There's only 3 known to exist! The first is from a Popsike.com entry from 2012 archiving an auction that happened on EBay.
Another is currently listed on EBay for $300 with no verification whether it is or isn’t what it claims to be.
And then there’s mine. To help it stand out I slapped together a little design. Included the cover of the EP it's supposed to be in comic book action bubble.

I asked the unsatisfied buyer to send me a video cuz I don’t have a turntable. I want to know what happened here and who could it could it be. I'm grateful they obliged by sending a short snippet. If that failed I know people who’d know if the internet failed to turn up anything. Much hasn’t crossed the digital divide from the old local punk scenes. Luckily I know the old ways :)
Check out the video from the unsatisfied buyer: https://youtube.com/shorts/C4H-yeDf3OU
Now compare it to At Your Funeral on Pinhead Gunpowder’s YouTube channel which I set up to play where the over video starts at 0:28 seconds in: https://youtu.be/orw6dUDrHpI?si=xhvuvdk0Q4kcVkKz&t=28
This here’s a genuine artifact of a fast and loose San Francisco Bay Area punk scene of my youth. And I couldn’t be more pleased to sell it at a price point fit for Billy Joe Armstrong. Cross your fingers for me, k?
