Queering Americana | Adobe Stock Submissions

Further experimentation with AI upscaling. These were processed and submitted before the Rainbow In The Dark series and serve as exemplary exapmles of growing pains.

While I went to great lengths to correct imperfections through post-processing the second image below (notably: the stove and cabinet bottoms were mangled and warped) I didn't realize the upscaler took 300DPI images and downscaled them to 72DPI.

Two important lessons learned: Once submitted, Adobe won't let you change anything until it passes approval. Always be sure to resize to 300DPI before uploading any image.

These were fun images to generate and play with. Part of a larger series developed that leans more in to whimsical absurdism. Since Adobe seldom provides clear categories for sought images I wanted to be sure they'd take these before submitting any others. Lo! They accepted both today!

Why bother correcting imperfections? Or upscaling? Simple. I want my images to look as good as I know they can be, and it's excellent practice to clean up what the AI makes.

I'm the kind of person who will painstakingly isolate elements from one image to mix with another for a silly and even bad meme. The details matter to me.

Raw AI output is a fad. Clean presentation in final results will gain traction. As much as the move to photorealistic generative AI is AWESOME it will have its limitations. Those that can pull it off quickly will be the ones best positioned to maximize the potential of generative AI. Could that be me? We'll see :)

Now-- the size and scope of those limitations change almost weekly. What they will look like in a year will be vastly different than today, as equally as they were different with MidJourney, et al exactly 1 year ago.
